In Chinese medicine, we are enjoined to prevent illness even before the onset of overt or debilitating symptoms. This requires some sensitivity to accomplish well. But acupuncture therapeutics can be described simply by the statement: if there is too much take some away, and if there is not enough add more.
The Nei Jing says, you don't start digging for oil when your economy is already dependent on it, or something like that.
Recently the military announced a $4 million budget for research on all manner of alternative medicine treatments for PTSD. Perhaps the stress on preventive medicine should be addressed first. For approximately $1 million, I can prove that keeping soldiers out of Iraq will prevent their returning home with PTSD.
